Your Session Day
We are at 5 Montego Ct, Dillsburg, PA 17019. Our studio is over 2,500 square feet with multiple set designs, a full client wardrobe room, a hair and makeup area, and a reveal area with calibrated iMacs so you see your images exactly the way we do.
Just you and your photographer. We are a full female studio staff, and the studio is designed with private areas for every part of your day. Your hair and makeup artist leaves once your application is finished, so your shoot is completely private.
Plan for about 4 hours start to finish. Sessions begin at 10 AM. When you arrive, we go through your wardrobe together, then start shooting around noon, and you are usually finished between 2:30 and 3 PM. We pose you from head to pointed toe and guide every expression. Fair warning: expect to be a little sore afterward, there is a lot of bending and twisting, it is quite the workout.
We do not allow guests for any part of your time with us, including your session and your reveal. Our experience is best when it is one on one and the focus is completely on you.
About 7 to 10 business days after your session, you will return to the studio or meet with us on Google Meet for your private Image Reveal and Ordering Appointment. It lasts about an hour to an hour and a half. You will view your images, choose your favorites, and decide how you want to display them. We show you 50 to 100 images depending on your chosen collection. All ordering decisions are made at this appointment. We do not offer online galleries or a second appointment.
If your order includes high resolution digital files, you will receive them within 2 business days of your reveal. Your custom printed products are sourced from some of the finest labs in the world and typically arrive about 8 to 10 weeks after your session. We usually drop ship everything straight to you to keep it simple, unless you would prefer to have your products shipped to the studio.
We book up 6 to 12 months in advance, and printed products can take up to 10 weeks. If you have a special occasion or a holiday gift in mind, plan to book about a year ahead so we can secure your date and deliver in time.
Preparing for Your Session
Stretch, hydrate, and moisturize. A boudoir session is a lot like a yoga class, the bendier you are, the easier it feels, and drinking plenty of water helps with flexibility, bloating, and clear skin. Eat a great breakfast the morning of so you have energy for posing. We will order a charcuterie board of your choice from a local caterer, and we always have snacks and water on hand.
Handle any color, cuts, waxing, or hair removal at least a few days to a week ahead so everything settles and there is time to fix anything if needed. Do not try a brand new hairstyle, color, piercing, or tattoo right before your session. Exfoliate 2 to 3 days before your shoot, not the night before, and moisturize daily. Avoid new skincare products and avoid sun exposure. Natural nails are perfectly fine as long as they are clean and well kept, and we recommend soft, neutral, or gem tones that you will still love decades from now. We do have press-on nails available, but you must be comfortable with using glue so they stay secure throughout your session.
Because 99 percent of our clients use the client wardrobe, you do not need to bring outfits. You are required to bring 2 pairs of underwear as a layer between you and our wardrobe pieces: 1 black thong and 1 skin tone thong. Seamless or g-string styles work best. Everything else is optional. Favorite jewelry, especially custom or sentimental pieces, is a fun way to personalize your session. If you have heels you love, bring them. We carry sizes 6 to 10, but our selection is limited. Anything you bring should be in like-new condition with the tags removed.
Please do not arrive early. We often have back to back appointments, so we cannot let you in early or answer calls and texts before your scheduled time. We promise to be ready for you right at your start time. If you need to pass some time, there are a few coffee spots nearby.
Arrive in loose, comfortable clothing that will not leave marks on your skin. Skip jeans, socks, and underwire bras. PJs, sweats, yoga pants, or leggings are perfect. Bring anything you would like to change into afterward.
Do not worry at all. That is what retouching is for. Just keep your skin moisturized so it looks fresh and luminous.
Hair and Makeup
You will receive a 60 to 90 minute professional application customized to you, your comfort level, and your confidence. It will look incredible and last all day. Please tell your artist about any allergies. If you cannot use certain products like a specific moisturizer or foundation, feel free to bring your own and they will apply it. Inspiration photos are welcome, and telling your artist how you normally do your makeup helps them make you feel like the best version of yourself. We ask for inspiration photos in your questionnaire, but you are also welcome to text them to us before your session.
Do not drastically change your skincare the week before, since it can cause breakouts. A hydration facial is great 3 to 5 days before, but skip chemical peels or other enhancements the week of your session. Gently exfoliate 2 to 3 days before, then moisturize morning and night. Get any eyebrow or facial waxing done at least a week ahead. Wear SPF 35 to 50 for a week beforehand and avoid sunburn, since burnt skin photographs red and will not match your foundation. Avoid tanning beds for 4 weeks before your session.
Your session fee includes a complimentary Signature Spray at Model Behavior. We recommend booking it about 3 to 4 days before your session, and your booking code will be given to you closer to your date. It is optional, but it is a lovely way to add a little glow.
Come in with a completely clean face and no makeup at all. If you wore makeup the day before, wash your face and remove all mascara so we have a clean palette. The day of, wash your face and arrive with no moisturizer, serums, or other products on. Your artist will prep your skin for a seamless application.
This part is imperative: wash your hair the night before or that morning and arrive with it completely blow dried. If you arrive with wet or damp hair, you will not receive hair styling. Use a clarifying shampoo to remove oils, and do not put any products in your hair. Your stylist will apply heat protectant, hairspray, and texturizing spray. Do not flat iron beforehand. If your hair is curly, brush curls into a soft, bouncy wave unless your hair is naturally curly. Get any cut or color done 1 to 2 weeks ahead so your roots are fresh and any mistakes can be fixed.
Wardrobe
Wardrobe is one of the biggest ways we set your session up for success, and it does not have to be overwhelming. We are strong believers in keeping it refined: clean lines, simple layers, less truly is more. The goal is for the wardrobe to support you, not distract from you. Choose pieces because they feel like you, not because you think you should wear them. There is no need to hide behind costumes, trends, or props. The most powerful images come from choices that feel natural and aligned with who you are.
No. Most of our clients use our client wardrobe of over 1,000 pieces in sizes XS to 6X. You are welcome to bring a few pieces of your own if you would like, and many clients do a mix of both. If we do not already have something you love in studio, we can talk through options during your one-on-one wardrobe consultation. For branding sessions, we may also take your measurements and help plan wardrobe pieces that fit the vision for your shoot.
These are ideas, not requirements:
- Heels in like-new condition, the higher the better. We have nude and black in sizes 6 to 10.
- An everyday piece you love, like a sweater, tee, button-up shirt, jeans, or cowboy boots, that we can style in a sexy way.
- A few favorite jewelry pieces, including your everyday pieces and a statement piece or two.
- Fun accessories like a fur coat, leather jacket, thigh highs, or fishnets.
- Fishnets, thigh highs, or patterned tights, which make great add-ons or a beautiful way to do an implied nude.
- Black high waisted panties and a strappy or lacy bra or bralette.
We love our implied nude “in the sheets” look and highly recommend giving it a try. It feels vulnerable, honest, and timeless, and we will always keep you within your comfort zone.
A few of our favorites include Love Child Boudoir, Honey Birdette, Yandy, Adore Me, Lane Bryant, Torrid, Savage X, Frederick’s, Agent Provocateur, Hips and Curves, Venus, La Senza, ASOS, H&M, and Anthropologie.
